Vihar Lake, deep inside Powai, in Bombay has been a source of water for the city. There was a children’s park where annual picnics of all the local schools were conducted. Then 1992 and 1993 happened. The government barricaded the place, and kept the public out. The swings deteriorated, the faux cement ship fell to pieces.
But the original residents of the place still had access and reclaimed it. It is now a calm oasis in this chaotic city. Here birds nest in peace, policemen slumber in the afternoon heat, and local women spend time on its banks angling for some fish for the evening meal.
(er…btw, photography is not allowed in the lake area either) 😉
