Root(ing) Women

Once, during one of our walks in the University of Pune, we came across this photographer shooting tree trunks. We looked up and down the tree and failed to spot what was being shot. As the only ‘photographer’ in our group, I felt duty bound to go up and ask the man what was he doing?

Turned out that this senior photographer was an old hand at shooting nature. He was shooting the images of men and women that emerged when the roots of the Banyan tree merged, entangled, and grew over each other. He was planning to put up an exhibition on the subject. “You have to have the eye”, he said.

Okay. so began the journey of developing the eye. This photo was taken in Hyderabad in 2007. As you can see, the ‘eye’  is still being procesed.
